NOTICE OF COMPETITION
MAIN OBJECTIVES
Valsusa Film Fest is a festival of movies and videos open to everybody.
It represents a place of meeting and discussion of the independent production of movies, shot even outside the Val Di Susa, and realized with the main purpose of recovering the historical memory of these places and defending environment. Valsusa Film Fest aims at showing how the new generations want to describe with images significant events of the present and of the past and how they want to raise public awareness about the changes and the cultural differences that have characterised this century.
Valsusa Film Fest would like to remind Mario Celso (Oscar in 1992). He was born in Sant' Antonio di Susa, where he founded the IREM(a factory producing electromechanical rectifiers), he received the scientific Technical Award " for his pioneering contribute to the development and production of devices for the supply of coal- arches, of Xenox lamps and for the igniters, used in the cinematographic production.
After ten years of life the Festival renews itself and raises its gaze up to the mountains, the Alps. Mountain chains that include deep-rooted cultures. Mountains that, instead of representing a hindrance, can be seen as a connecting point, thanks to their passes, their hills and roads. Places where traditions still represent a precious value to be preserved, places where communities live in constant balance between men and nature. We have to protect our valleys from the devastating effect of consumerism, we also have to defend the fragile natural habitat of the Alps with their historical needs. Mountains full of peace, mountains full of words, mountains full of tales, mountains full of freedom. Tales of fairies, of woods and of bandits. Tales of birds, animals, plants and of hard work. Strong hands that have built up walls, houses and churches. Nowadays, a huge geographical area, a real natural heaven that is still waiting for a new and innovative local culture. It's no longer border, since the European Union decided not to consider it as a territory. The Alps. No longer a hindrance, but a point of connection within the huge European region. Nowadays the Alps can represent a place of identity and meeting.

COMPETION THE ALPS
The valleys, the mountains, the meetings, the present and the past.
The real life in the mountains, our feelings and wishes. The Alps as our memory, our roots, our personal path, the mountains as fun and hobbies. The mountains as a place of silence, solitude, future, identity and freedom. The competition is open to movies of maximum 30 mins.
The accepted formats are DVCAM - MINIDVCAM - MINIDV - DVD + R/R - VHS.
COMPETITION SHORT-CUTS
The competition is open to movies and videos of a maximum length of 30 mins, regardless of the techniques or the artistic strategies adopted. M -It's open Italian as well as to foreign people. The topic to be chosen is free.
The accepted formats are 35 mm - 16 mm/DVcam - MINI DVCAM - DV - MINIDV - DVD + R/- R - VHS.
COMPETION FOR SCHOOLS
The competition is open to all schools, regardless of class or level. Students have to realize their works, considering that the maximal length of the videos/movies has to be of 10 mins, and keeping in mind that the topics they have to deal with are "memory " and "environment".
The award "MONTAGNA NOSTRA (OUR MOUNTAINS) will be given to the work dealing with the topic: "the forms of tourism that can be seen as environmentally friendly".
COMPETITION DOC
COMPETITION HISTORICAL MEMORY
The ANPI ( National Association of Italian Partisans) aims at promoting this section in order to highlight the importance of works focusing on our memory and our history. We will accept in this section documentaries and videos realized with the main aim of providing evidence to future generations of a present or past event. Among the competing videos, there will be only one work, that will be awarded and shown to the public. Maximum length: 30 mins. The accepted formats are DVCAM - MINI DVCAM - DV - MINIDV - DVD + R/- R - VHS.
WE ARE THE HISTORY
This competition is open to videos that deal with local experiences of active participation to democracy: the videos that will be part of this section have to tackle all forms of resistance related to environmental as well as political issues in Italy and abroad. Among the works, we will choose one video that will be shown to the public, and we will invite the director for a discussion on the issue tackled. Maximum length: 30 mins. The accepted formats are DVCAM - MINI DVCAM - DV - MINIDV - DVD + R/- R - VHS.
COMPETION DOCUMENTARIES
It's a section for documentaries with maximum length of 30 mins, regardless of the genres and cinematographic techniques adopted.
It's open to Italian and foreign people.
Free topic. the accepted formats are DVCAM - MINI DVCAM - DV - MINIDV - DVD + R/- R - VHS.

PARTECIPATION RULES
The authors have to fill in the participation form and have to be careful to write their name, surname and address in a clear and comprehensible way.
In order to take part to the wished section the participants have to send a videocassette in DVD/VHS format of their video. We don't accept other formats. We kindly ask you to specify which section of the competition you want to take part to and to send the participation form with all your personal data.
IMPORTANT! We won't accept any cassette with more than one videos recorded.
Send the cassette, the participation form and some photos taken during the shooting to the following address:
VALSUSA FILMFEST, VIA ROMA 1/A, CONDOVE, TORINO per letter/parcel or per post within 30th January, 2007. The Festival won't accept any works delivered after the previously mentioned date. The total length of the video must include the title.
The participation is free. Each author is allowed to send only one work per section of the competition. The delivery costs have to be paid by the author. We won't accept industrial movies, advertising videos or works realized by the national networks. The videos sent won't be given back to the author and will become part of the Val Susa Filmfest Archives.
The authors authorise the Festival to show their works, or part of them, for promotional or research reasons, but not for the sake of gain, at different stages of the Festival. Only the Valsusa Film Fest artistic Committee will have the authority to select the works that will be entitled to take part to the competition. At the end of the preselection, the authors will be contacted or informed per phone or mail. Furthermore, the names of the works and authors selected will be shown on the Festival website. For those who want to send their work in the original format, the deadline will be 30th March, 2007 ( we won't accept any videos delivered on the day of the showing)
